The Platinum 500 is the gas heater for spaces where a stainless box would look wrong. A black ceramic glass front hides the burner entirely, so you get 39,800 BTU of directional radiant heat from something that reads as architecture rather than equipment.

Is this the right heater for you?

Choose the Platinum Gas if you:

  • Want gas output but care how the unit looks
  • Have a gas line already, or can run one
  • Are heating a larger or more exposed area where electric would struggle
  • Have the ceiling height for gas clearances

Gas needs more room than electric

Gas units run hotter and need larger clearances to walls, ceilings and anything overhead. Check your clearances before you commit, particularly on a covered patio with a low roof. Where overhead space is tight, a heat deflector reduces the required clearance and pushes heat downward.

Mount between 8 and 10 feet above the finished floor where you can. Higher than that and the heat spreads too thin before it reaches anyone.

Natural gas or propane

Both produce the same output. Natural gas is cheaper to run and never needs refilling, but ties you to a fixed connection. Propane works where no line exists. Either way, the gas connection must be made by a licensed gas fitter.

Wind and weather

Rated to 12 mph. Infrared is not carried away by a breeze the way warm air is, so the heat still lands. One honest caveat: wind chill still pulls warmth off your skin. The Platinum uses patented direct ignition with no standing pilot, so there is no pilot flame to blow out. On a permanently exposed site, electric is still the more reliable choice.

Gas heaters do not dim. If variable output matters to you, that is an argument for electric.

Questions before you buy
  • How much space does it heat? Up to 215 sq ft of radiant coverage.
  • What is the output? 39,800 BTU.
  • Natural gas or propane? Both available. Natural gas costs less to run, propane works without a fixed line.
  • How high should it be mounted? Between 8 and 10 feet above the finished floor. Check the clearance requirements in the manual for your configuration.
  • Can I use it under a pergola or wood ceiling? Yes, with a heat deflector, which reduces the required overhead clearance.
  • Can I dim it? No. Gas heaters run at full output. Electric models dim.
  • Who installs it? A licensed gas fitter in your province.
  • How is this different from the Tungsten Gas? The Tungsten 500 puts out more heat, 43,000 BTU, for less money. The Platinum is the one you choose when the heater needs to look like part of the design.
