I need to monitor my second home two hours away. What do I actually need?
Three things cover most of the risk: a temperature sensor (freeze and furnace failure), a water leak sensor (burst pipes, sump failure), and power outage detection. Our Cabin Protect and Vacant Property Protect systems bundle all three with a gateway and alerts to your phone. If the home has internet, the Ethernet version is the lower-cost option; if not, the Cellular version works anywhere with cell coverage.
Do Monnit sensors work at a cabin with no internet or WiFi?
Yes. Our Cellular systems use a Monnit ALTA cellular gateway — no WiFi or wired internet needed, just cell coverage. Battery backup keeps it reporting through a power outage.
What's the best water leak sensor for a cabin or cottage?
It depends where the water shows up. A spot sensor watches one place (under a water heater), a disc sensor sits on any floor, and a rope sensor runs along a whole wall or pipe run. Monnit ALTA water detection sensors are rated for the job and last for years on batteries — tell us about your layout and we'll point you to the right one.
Can I check my propane tank level remotely?
Yes. The Monnit propane tank level monitor reads a remote-ready tank dial and reports the level to your phone, so a winter delivery gets ordered before the tank runs dry.
Will I get an alert if the power goes out or the furnace quits?
Yes. Every system alerts your phone by text or email when power drops, when temperature falls below your threshold, or when water is detected. You set the thresholds; the system does the watching.
Do these sensors work in Canadian winters?
Monnit ALTA sensors are commercial-grade and used in cold-chain and industrial settings well below -30°C. We only recommend hardware rated for the conditions where you'll place it.
Can this monitor a commercial building, arena, or gym?
