Questions people ask.
Gas or electric patio heater: which should I choose?
Electric wins where there is no gas line, in windier spots because there is no pilot to blow out, and in partly enclosed spaces that gas cannot safely vent. Gas runs hotter over a big open area. If you have power but no gas, or you want the recessed ceiling look, electric is the answer. The catch is your panel, a 6000W unit is a real load, so check your capacity first.
Do electric patio heaters need a dedicated circuit?
Yes. These are hard-wired, and the larger sizes draw real power, so many homes need a dedicated circuit and spare panel capacity. Confirm that before you buy, and have a licensed electrician make the connection.
Can an electric patio heater be recessed into the ceiling?
Yes, two ways. Semi-recessed sits partly into the ceiling for a lower profile, and fully recessed sets it flush for a clean, built-in look that all but disappears. Both need a recess kit and a little planning, ideally before the ceiling is finished. It is the sleekest install Bromic offers on this heater.
What do Bromic Affinity controls do?
On and off from a wall plate, step-dimming to set exact output, and app-based zoning so you only run the areas with people in them. On the 4000W and 6000W you can also run a single element or both. Zoning is where the running-cost savings come from, you are not paying to heat empty space.
Do electric patio heaters work in the wind?
More reliably than gas. There is no pilot flame to blow out, so it keeps running in a breeze. The infrared itself is unaffected by wind on either fuel, but wind chill still cools the person, so block the wind where you can.
How much does an electric patio heater cost to run?
A 6 kW heater draws 6 kWh for every hour it runs, so at 15 cents a kilowatt hour that is about 90 cents an hour at full output. Run a smaller size, or one element, or only the zones in use, and it drops from there. Check your own power rate and do the same simple math, and check with your utility provider for the current rates on your services.
What is the best patio heater for an enclosed or screened space?
Anywhere gas is ruled out, screened porches, three-season rooms and enclosed patios, electric is the answer because it makes no combustion byproducts and needs no ventilation.
