Simple control, built for gas.
Gas heaters run at full output, they do not dim. What you control is on and off, and how many units switch together. The mounted 500 wires into a rated wall switch or an Affinity On/Off controller. The Portable has its own on-unit control and needs nothing added.

Should I get the Bromic Tungsten Gas 500 wall-mount or the Portable?
Pick the 500 if the patio is fixed and you want the heater built in, mounted on a wall, ceiling or pole and out of the way. Pick the Portable if you want to move the heat between the deck, the fire pit and the cottage, or if you cannot mount anything. The 500 puts out more, up to 43,000 BTU across 215 sq ft. The Portable trades a little output for the freedom to roll it anywhere on propane with no installer.
How much area does the Tungsten Gas 500 heat?
Up to 215 sq ft of directional radiant coverage from one unit at 43,000 BTU. Coverage drops if it is mounted high or the space is windy, so on a large or exposed patio plan for more than one. Send us the dimensions and we will size it with you.
How long does the Tungsten Portable run on a propane tank?
Around nine hours on a 20 lb tank at moderate output, less at full, longer if you run it lower. A 30 lb tank also fits the base for a longer evening. The heat deflector is included, and the top separates from the base for easy storage over winter.
Natural gas or propane, and who installs the Tungsten Gas?
Both fuels are available and produce the same heat. The mounted 500 needs a licensed gas fitter to make the connection, natural gas on a fixed line or propane. The Portable simply connects to a propane tank that sits in its base, so there is no installer for that one. Natural gas costs less to run and never needs refilling, propane goes anywhere.
Can the Tungsten Gas go under a pergola, and does it handle wind?
Yes to a pergola, with the heat deflector, which pushes heat downward and lowers the required overhead clearance for cedar beams and low ceilings. On wind, it is rated to keep performing up to 8 mph. Wind chill still cools the person and a strong gust can blow out a gas pilot, so on a permanently exposed site block the wind or look at electric.
What is the best Bromic heater for a windy or exposed patio?
Radiant infrared is the right technology for wind, because it heats people and objects directly instead of heating the air, so a gust does not blow the warmth away. For an exposed deck the high-output Tungsten Gas 500 at 43,000 BTU is the strongest single choice. Which Bromic heater is best for portability?
Only two Bromic heaters are portable. The Tungsten Portable Gas runs off a cylinder, gives the most heat and needs no outlet. The Eclipse Freestanding is electric, plugs in, and adds light. Pick the Tungsten Portable for raw heat with no power outlet, or the Eclipse Freestanding for an enclosed space or when you want light too.
