Covered Outdoor Patio with Heaters

Do Patio Heaters Work in a Canadian Winter? What to Realistically Expect

Can you actually use a patio heater through a Canadian winter? Short answer: yes for the shoulder seasons and mild-winter days, with real limits. Here's what a Bromic heater will and won't do as the temperature drops, and how to get the most season out of it.

What to realistically expect

Radiant heaters like Bromic warm people and objects directly instead of heating the air, which is why they work outdoors where ordinary space heaters don't. They keep you comfortable through fall, spring, and mild-winter evenings, and Bromic recommends using them in conditions down to about -5°C.

Below that, be realistic. You won't keep a whole open patio warm, and nobody's sitting outside in a blizzard anyway. Where it still earns its keep is targeted, short use: sitting in a hot tub under a pergola for an hour on a -10°C night, a well-placed Bromic keeps your head and shoulders warm, the part that's out of the water. That's the honest picture, spot warmth for the people right under it, not heat across the open air. To get comfortable heat over a larger area in the cold, shelter the space, walls, a roof, or wind screens, and let the heater work in that smaller, protected zone.

Design an outdoor space you'll actually use

The Scandinavians have a word for it: friluftsliv, or open-air living, getting outside in every season. What makes it work in Canada is smart heater placement and sheltering the space so the heat stays where people are. Bromic heaters are built for that, with directional radiant output, corrosion-resistant materials, and a look that suits a finished patio.

The best Bromic heaters for Canada

Bromic Eclipse

Heat and light in one pendant. The Eclipse pairs radiant warmth with a dimmable LED, controlled from a remote or the app, available as a fixed pendant or a freestanding unit. Best where you want targeted warmth and light together, like over a table.

Bromic Platinum

The premium look. The Platinum, Electric or Gas, adds a ceramic glass face and slim housing for finished, on-display patios. Best for businesses and larger spaces where performance and looks both matter.

Bromic Tungsten

The best-selling workhorse. The Tungsten, Electric, Gas, or Portable Gas, puts out powerful radiant heat with corrosion-resistant, brushed stainless construction, ideal for open and windier areas. The 6000W electric models run at 25, 50, 75, and 100 percent to match the conditions.

Every fixed model can be run and zoned from a wall plate or the Bromic app with an Affinity controller, which is also how you keep running costs down. See what it costs to run a patio heater in Canada.
